American Utility Review

How to Earn Referral Rewards by Sharing a Free Utility Bill Review

You probably know someone who pays a big utility bill every month: a restaurant owner, a plant manager, a hotel operator, a farmer, a church administrator. American Utility Review's referral program lets you introduce them to a free bill review, and earn a referral reward when they become a client.

Watch: Welcome to the AUR Referral Program, the full 8-minute walkthrough.

What American Utility Review does

American Utility Review (AUR) is a team of independent commercial utility auditors who have been reviewing electric, natural gas and water/sewer bills since 1986. They check rate schedules, demand charges, meter readings, taxes and fees, find billing errors and overcharges, and help recover refunds.

For the business, there's no upfront cost. AUR works on a shared-savings basis: it's paid a share of refunds and savings only after the client receives them. If AUR doesn't find refunds or savings, the business owes nothing. That makes it an easy thing to recommend.

Your role: make the introduction

You don't audit anything, and you don't need to know how utility bills work. Your only job is to connect a business with AUR. AUR's auditors do the rest.

How it works

  1. Sign up at aur.neuclix.com/refer.html. It's free and takes about a minute: your name, email and agreement to the program terms.
  2. Get your link. You immediately receive your own referral link, plus a private dashboard.
  3. Share it with business owners and managers you know, by text, email, social media or in person.
  4. Earn a reward when a business requests a review through your link and becomes an AUR client.

Your dashboard and marketing kit

Your private dashboard shows every referral as it moves from New to Qualified, Converted and Paid. You'll never wonder where a referral stands. It also gives you:

  • your personal link with one-tap sharing to email, text, LinkedIn, Facebook, X and WhatsApp;
  • a QR code for business cards, flyers or a counter sign;
  • a printable one-page flyer with your own QR code;
  • ready-made messages and posts, with the required disclosure already included;
  • videos and other materials from AUR.

You can even add the dashboard to your phone's home screen like an app.

How you get credit, and how you're paid

When someone opens your link, your code is remembered on their device for 90 days. If they come back and request a review within that window, on the same device and browser, you get the credit.

Your reward is released when your referral becomes an AUR client and AUR has received the client's payment. Rewards are normally paid within 30 days after that. Before your first payment, AUR will ask for a completed IRS Form W-9, and you may receive a Form 1099. You're responsible for taxes on your rewards.

The rules

  • Anyone 18 or older can join, and so can organizations: school clubs and booster groups, PTOs, scout troops, churches, charities and businesses. Rewards for a group are paid to the group.
  • Own a business? You can refer it yourself.
  • One limit: if you work for a public entity (a school district, city, county or state agency), you can't personally earn a reward for referring your own employer. Your club or booster group can.
  • Always disclose that you may earn a referral fee when you share your link. It's required by U.S. advertising rules, and the ready-made messages already include it.
  • Never promise or guarantee savings or refund amounts, and don't present yourself as an AUR employee. You're an independent referral partner.

Who to share with

Focus on organizations with large utility bills:

  • restaurants and hotels;
  • manufacturers, processors and plant or facility managers;
  • farms and ranches;
  • hospitals, schools and churches;
  • accountants, bookkeepers and property managers, who see many clients' utility bills every month.

A personal text or email to someone you know works far better than a general post.

Ready to start?

Ask yourself: who do you know that pays a large electric, gas or water bill every month? Sign up, grab your link, and send it to them.

Rewards are paid only when a referral becomes an AUR client and AUR has received the client’s payment. Earnings aren’t guaranteed and depend on your referrals. See the program terms.
